For many men who commute without needing to carry large laptops or files, it does free up their hands. Secondly, it's spacious enough for the small items men usually carry, such as wallets, keys, earphones, sunglasses...everything can be handled with one bag. Of course, single-shoulder bags come in many styles and brands.
So for daily white-collar workers, business elites, and sports and leisure boys with different styles and purposes, as long as the right style is chosen, it can be practical and stylish at the same time, making the look more eye-catching. Even though men's bags have never become as popular as women's handbags, the cultural and historical background behind the product is always more attractive to men.
The single-shoulder bag can be traced back to the Roman era.
In the Roman Empire, before the invention of pockets, men made a kind of pouch. This pouch was made of leather, silk, or metal. It could be fastened around the waist with a strap and could hold simple food and small items. The modern men's single-shoulder bag is mainly influenced by the large American messenger bag. After the Civil War, the U.S. Postal Service designed a special large messenger bag to replace mailbags to increase mail delivery efficiency. This postal bag could deliver hundreds of pounds of paper daily and had a separate strap. Because of its convenience and durability, it immediately became popular in the postal industry worldwide. Later, during the World Wars, this leather messenger bag was redesigned into a lighter material - cotton canvas, nylon, or linen - making it lightweight and easy to carry for soldiers, thus becoming popular worldwide again. The large messenger bag still used by the British Royal Mail, when it reached China, naturally became popular first as military supplies, and later became a glorious item, entering thousands of households. Therefore, in many film and television works today, this military cross-body bag can often be seen, which is the early men's single-shoulder bag. To this day, many men still carry single-shoulder bags.
